How online ability tests prevent cheating.

Now, in the olden days when almost all testing was done paper, pencil, in person at the testing center, it's very difficult to cheat.

You simply couldn't bring in an answer sheet with you with the correct answers, so it really was a non-issue then.

But now that everything is online and unsupervised, assessments run the risk of people downloading the answers and sharing them via social media.

Now what we do in the psychometric testing industry these days is employ item banking.

Huge banks of questions, hundreds of questions, giving each candidate a pretty unique combination of questions.

As a result, you simply can't print 15 questions and then look up the answers because there are hundreds of possible questions.

It's not feasible to look through hundreds and hundreds of questions in order to found the answers even if they were leaked.

As a result, if they try to do that, if they were able to do that, they would end up wasting time, and the time limits on ability tests tend to be quite strict.

As a result, the best thing to do of course is do your best with what you have and give a fair reflection on your ability.
